A Bicycle Notice

Noor wanted a bicycle for short trips around her neighborhood. A new one cost more than she could spend, so she looked at the notice board in her community center. Someone named Alex was selling a blue bicycle. The notice included the size, price, and a meeting place outside the center. Noor sent a message and arranged to see it on Saturday morning.

Checking the Size

Alex arrived on time and showed Noor the bicycle. He explained that it had belonged to his sister, who had moved away. Noor first checked whether she could sit comfortably and reach both brakes. The seat was a little high, so Alex lowered it with a tool. After that, Noor could place her feet safely on the ground when she stopped.

The Test Ride

Noor rode slowly around the empty square. She tried the brakes, changed direction, and listened for unusual sounds. The bicycle moved smoothly, but the front bell did not ring. Its small metal cover was loose. Alex had not noticed the problem. They returned to the meeting place, and Noor showed him the silent bell before discussing the price.

An Honest Choice

Alex offered to lower the price by the cost of a simple new bell. Noor agreed because the main parts worked well and the bicycle fit her. They wrote a short receipt with the date, price, and bicycle description. Noor paid only after both people read it. Alex also gave her the original light and a small bag that attached under the seat.

The First Useful Trip

That afternoon, Noor replaced the bell at a repair shop. She then rode to the library with an empty backpack. The trip took less time than her usual walk, and she brought home two books. Before going inside, she locked the bicycle in the correct area. The careful test had helped her choose an affordable bicycle and understand exactly what needed repair.
