Outside the Door
When Bruno came home, a large box was outside his apartment. He was not expecting a delivery. The apartment number on the label was forty-six, while Bruno lived in thirty-six. The written name was Asha Malik. Bruno knew nobody with that name, but the building had many new residents. The box felt heavy, so he did not want to carry it around without a plan.
Checking the Building List
Bruno took a photo of the label but did not open the box. He went downstairs and checked the resident list beside the mailboxes. A. Malik lived in apartment forty-six on the fourth floor. The delivery worker had probably read the first number incorrectly. Bruno called the building manager and explained where the package had been left. She thanked him for checking first.
A Difficult Lift
The building lift was out of service that evening. Bruno could carry the box upstairs, but it was wide and blocked his view. The manager brought a small cart from the cleaning room. Together, they placed the box on it and used the stairs slowly. Bruno held the top while the manager lifted the bottom. They stopped at each floor to rest and check the path.
The Correct Door
Asha opened apartment forty-six after Bruno knocked. She had received a delivery message but could not find the package. The box contained a flat desk that she needed for working at home. She checked her name and address before accepting it. Asha offered Bruno and the manager cold water, and they rested in the hall before walking downstairs again.
A Note for Deliveries
The manager reported the wrong delivery number through the company’s contact form. She also placed a clear floor map near the entrance. Bruno returned to his apartment with the empty cart. The next day, Asha left a thank-you note in his mailbox. It said her desk was ready and invited him for tea. A mistaken number had helped two neighbors meet.
