A Cold Evening

Sofia wore a blue scarf on the bus home from work. Her aunt had made it, so it was more important to her than an ordinary scarf. The bus was warm, and Sofia took it off. She placed it on the seat beside her while she answered a message. At her stop, she picked up her bag and coat but left the scarf behind.

Sofia noticed the missing scarf when she reached her building. The bus was already far down the road. She checked her bag twice and remembered the empty seat. Her ticket showed the route number and travel time. Sofia opened the transport website and found a lost-property form. She described the scarf, the bus route, her seat, and the time she got off.

A Helpful Driver

The next morning, Sofia received a message from the bus office. A driver had found a blue scarf during the final check of the bus. It was now at the central lost-property desk. The message included an item number and collection hours. Sofia could not go during work, so she asked whether the office stayed open late on Thursday. It did.

Describing the Pattern

On Thursday evening, Sofia gave the clerk her item number. Before showing the scarf, the clerk asked for one more detail. Sofia explained that one end had three white lines and the other had two. Her aunt had made the pattern uneven on purpose. The clerk brought out the scarf, and the lines matched Sofia’s description. She signed the collection form.

Ready for the Visit

Sofia washed the scarf and wore it on Saturday when she visited her aunt. She told the whole story over lunch. Her aunt was glad that the driver had checked the bus carefully. She also added a small cloth label with Sofia’s phone number inside the scarf. On the journey home, Sofia kept it around her neck, even when the bus became warm.
