Coins in a Pocket
June often finds small coins in her coat pocket. She usually leaves them on the kitchen table. One day, her sister puts an empty glass jar there. They decide to put every loose coin in the jar for one month.
A Little Each Day
After work, June checks her pockets. Some days she adds two coins. Other days she has none. Her sister adds coins from her purse too. The jar slowly becomes heavier. They do not count the money yet.
The Last Friday
On the last Friday, they pour the coins onto the table. They make small groups and count them. There is enough money for bread, eggs, fruit, and orange juice. They write a short shopping list together.
Saturday Breakfast
On Saturday, the sisters cook breakfast at home. They eat near the open window and talk for a long time. The meal is simple, but the month of small coins makes it feel special. Then they start the empty jar again.
