An Empty Corner

There is an empty corner behind the school. It has dark soil and a low wall. Ms. Park’s class wants to make a garden there. The students draw a simple plan. They choose lettuce, beans, and small yellow flowers.

Working Together

On Monday, the class clears the ground. Some students move small stones. Others make straight lines in the soil. Ms. Park gives each group a bag of seeds. The students put the seeds in and cover them gently.

Water and Time

Two students water the garden each morning. They use one green can. For several days, the soil looks the same. Then tiny leaves appear. The class makes signs with the plant names and puts them beside each row.

The First Bowl

Weeks later, the lettuce is ready. The class picks only the large outside leaves. They wash them and make one big salad. Every student gets a small bowl. The empty corner is now green, useful, and full of life.
