No Power

Kai wakes up and looks for the time. His phone screen is black. He forgot to charge it. The clock in the kitchen says seven-thirty. Kai has one hour before work. He plugs in the phone and starts to get ready.

A Paper Number

Kai usually checks the bus on his phone. Today, he looks at a paper timetable near the front door. His bus comes at eight. He writes his manager’s phone number on a small card and puts it in his wallet.

The Bus Is Late

At the stop, Kai waits ten minutes. The bus does not come. A woman says there is road work. Kai uses a public phone in the station. He calls his manager and explains that he may be a little late.

A Useful Backup

Another bus arrives soon, and Kai reaches work at eight-thirty-five. His manager thanks him for calling. That evening, Kai charges his phone. He also keeps the paper timetable and number card. They are useful when a screen is dark.
