Rain After Work
Mei finishes work at five. Outside, rain falls hard. She has no coat and no umbrella. Her coworker Luis sees her by the door. He has a large black umbrella in his desk. He tells Mei she can borrow it.
A Dry Walk Home
Mei walks to the train station under the umbrella. It is wide enough to keep her bag dry. At home, she opens it in the hall for a short time. Then she closes it and puts it beside her work bag.
A Morning Mistake
The next morning is sunny. Mei leaves home and forgets the umbrella. She remembers it on the train. She sends Luis a message and says sorry. Luis answers, “No problem. I do not need it today.”
Back with a Note
On Friday, Mei brings the umbrella back. A small note is tied to the handle. It says, “Thank you for the dry walk.” Luis reads it and smiles. He puts the umbrella in his desk, ready for another rainy day.
